Majors & the Minor

We offer multiple avenues for students to graduate with a Biology degree.

An in-depth learning experience where you will build a strong foundation of Biology, Mathematics, Chemistry and Physics, then explore upper-level classes in the areas of Biology that fascinate you the most. You will have the opportunity to conduct independent research and specialize in one of our 12 areas of concentration.

The Liberal Arts major program, appropriate for students planning a career in law, policy, or secondary school teaching. You will learn the basics of Math and Chemistry, develop a strong foundation in Biology and explore upper-level courses in the areas that interest you the most.

Approximately 20% of Biology Majors will elect to complete the requirements for one of 12 optional areas of concentration. The areas of concentration serve as advising tools, guiding students to more narrowly focus their course selection around classes most relevant to a specific sub-discipline of the Biological Sciences. Completion of concentration requirements will be noted on your transcript at graduation.

The Biology minor is intended as a pathway for students who wish to build educational depth in Biology as a broad field or in subdiscipline as a way to augment another major.
