The Biology Department mourns the death of Professor Diana Nemergut on December 31, 2015.  We offer our condolences to her husband, Alan Townsend, daughter Neva, and to the rest of her family. Professor Nemergut was an ecologist specializing in the life of bacterial communities in soil, and contributed greatly to our understanding of how microbial communities assemble and interact through time and space at a trait-based level. Services will be held on Friday, January 8th, in Boulder, Colorado. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, friends honor Diana's life by "helping those less fortunate than ourselves, in any way that is most meaningful to you."
