Prof. Fred Nijhout has won the 2015 International A.O. Kowalevsky Medal, which is awarded annually by the St. Petersburg Society of Naturalists. The award was established in the 1910's in honor of Alexander Kowalevsky, a professor of biology at St. Petersburg University. It fell into abeyance due to World War I and the Russian Revolution, but was revived in 2001 on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Kowalevsky's death. The award is given for significant contributions to evolutionary developmental biology. It will be presented at a ceremony in St. Petersburg, Russia, in April.
