Patrick Green (Patek Lab) presented research on territorial mantis shrimp at the June 2015 meeting of the Animal Behavior Society in Anchorage, Alaska. His presentation on how shrimp spar over territory was noticed and picked up by ScienceNews, the magazine of the Society for Science and the Public. Patrick revealed that the shrimp curl up and present the carapace of their last segment to absorb blows, and that the matches often end when one participant is simply stops fighting.
