This course explores how the linear DNA sequence produces 3-dimensional structure and function in all living organisms. Key concepts include genome organization, chromosome structure, genetic screens to discover essential cell components, transmission of genetic and epigenetic information, cell- and tissue-specific gene expression, and the experimental manipulation of genetic material for basic research. Course will emphasize the process of scientific discovery and methods of analysis that are essential to modern understanding of molecular biology, cell biology, and genetics. Prerequisite: Biology 201L and Biology 202L, or Biology 203L.
