Professor, Odum School of Ecology, University of Georgia – Athens, GA

1992 Major: Biology

How has being a Biology graduate from Duke helped shape you personally and/or professionally?

"Spending a summer at the Duke Marine Lab convinced me to change my major from Engineering to Biology, and inspired me to pursue a career in ecological research. The Biology degree from Duke and professors and colleagues I worked with there helped me make connections and develop projects that continued throughout my graduate studies and career. I also work with several Duke grads in my current job at UGA!"

What advice would you give students in Duke's Biology programs?

"Take the opportunity to pursue study away and field study during your time at Duke, including at the Duke Marine Lab. Talk to your professors and graduate students at Duke about what interests you and how to get hands on experience that will help you test your intellectual boundaries and build bridges for future career paths."
