How has being a Biology graduate from Duke helped shape you personally and/or professionally?

"My job involves an emphasis on teaching, but I also do a lot of research with undergraduate students. Being a graduate teaching assistant and the Certificate in Teaching College Biology gave me a solid foundation of experience in teaching and pedagogy."

What advice would you give students in Duke's Biology programs?

"Take lots of statistics because it is crucial to have a solid foundation in how to analyze data. Self-teaching yourself statistics (as I did) is harder than taking some well structured courses. Make sure to take time for rest, relaxation, relationships, and fun. Don’t let the overwork culture of academia burn you out. Take at least one day a week completely off of academic related work."
