How has being a Biology graduate from Duke helped shape you personally and/or professionally?

"I started my research career with a HHMI summer fellowship at Duke - this sparked my interest in research and I was fortunate to be able to stay in the same research lab for 6 semesters of Independent Study during my Sophomore - Senior years. This gave me a great foundation in molecular biology research and prepared me for graduate studies at UCSF."

What advice would you give students in Duke's Biology programs?

"Spend as much time in the research labs as you can! Duke has amazing biomedical research and it is such a gift to have access to the world-class facilities, graduate students, and professors. The things you'll learn in the research labs will stay with you for the rest of your career."
