How has being a Biology graduate from Duke helped shape you personally and/or professionally?

"My passion for Biology has translated into my professional life in multiple ways. Understanding and appreciating the interconnectedness and dependencies within systems has led to my cross-functional leadership roles. I enjoy connecting team members working in different areas of companies to each other to solve problems. After grad school I transitioned industries into healthcare where my interest in Biology came into play more directly. My appreciation and love for the field has enabled me to move across healthcare companies and verticals within the industry and span multiple specialty areas. Biology also influences my personal life. It drives my family's vacations and activities -- we are always seeking out opportunities to engage with our natural world and explore."

What advice would you give students in Duke's Biology programs?

"Biology is an amazing field that is constantly evolving. It is exciting to know that bright minds, like yours, are at work helping us better understand its potential and application. There are many professions and roles to which you will be able to apply your Biology degree and knowledge after graduation, both in traditional and emerging fields. Take the time to research companies and network with alumni or others in roles and companies that you may be interested in to help you determine what is next for you."
