EHR/EMR Digital Health Specialist APJ, AWS – Singapore

2011 Major: Biology

How has being a Biology graduate from Duke helped shape you personally and/or professionally?

"I was a pre-med at Duke. I graduated from Duke-NUS Medical School and practiced clinical medicine for 2 years before moving on to hospital administration. The biology program at Duke fostered critical thinking, an essential skill needed for me to succeed as a clinician in tech."

What advice would you give students in Duke's Biology programs?

"Be open to life experiences. You don't necessarily become a clinician despite being a pre-med student. One of my professors at Duke asked me why I wanted to go into medicine and I think I gave a standard answer that every other medical student would provide when it comes to this question. There are many ways of helping people. Medicine is not the only path. Forge your own path. Be curious and learn things outside of biology. You never know what will come in handy later in life. School is not about learning the content because knowledge quickly goes out of date in my industry. Learn about yourself and your method of learning fast so you can adapt to this changing world."
