How has being a Biology graduate from Duke helped shape your professional success?
"My biology degree at Duke gave me a thorough grounding in biology, and especially in genetics and the principles of research. I used these skills as the basis for my PhD in Plant Breeding & Genetics, studying at Cornell University. My time at Duke gave me an enthusiasm for research and confidence in my skills as a scientist, which have helped me greatly in my further education and my career."
What advice would you give students in Biology?
"My advice to Biology students is to be sure to explore a wide range of topics and disciplines in the field. The best way to do this is through independent research with a professor. My independent study and senior thesis I completed both helped me learn research skills and helped strengthen my graduate school application."
