ScienceNews recently featured research from David Sherwood's Lab on invadopodia, foot-like cell protrusions characteristic of metastatic cancer cells.  Sherwood and his colleagues discovered that invadopodia are actually an ancient, conserved structure in C. elegans worms, which emerge during development to link the uterus and the vagina.
