How has being a Biology graduate from Duke helped shape your professional success?

"I really enjoyed the flexibility of the degree beyond the pre-med requirements. The faculty and course offerings are wonderfully diverse - I was able to avail my self of theoretical biology classes (competing evolutionary theories, history of eugenics) and customized a summer curriculum at the Marine Lab. Expanding my focus and engaging in seminars and tutorials allowed me to hone my verbal and written argument and facilitated right and left brain thinking."

What advice would you give students in Biology?

"Think broadly and challenge yourself with classes that are outside of your comfort zone. Duke is ideal for explorative learning. The Marine Lab at Beaufort is an absolute gem - if you are able, consider immersing yourself in this unique environment."
