2006 Major: Biology; minor in Chemistry

How has being a Biology graduate from Duke helped shape your professional success?

"Being a biology major at Duke launched my career in medicine and science. The Chair of biology at the time (Dan Kiehart, PhD... now Dean of Natural Sciences) took me under his wing and introduced me to innovative bench research. The research skills he fostered have led to success in achieving a rewarding medical research career."

What advice would you give students in Biology?

"Seek out faculty and graduate student mentors at Duke. They are inevitably thought leaders in their field, and will be vital to launching your career in science. Make friends with your classmates because you'll see many of them out there again. I recently finished one of the last stages of my medical training in Boston alongside a former Duke general chemistry classmate."
