Alumna Andrea Sweigart Receives Presidential Early Career Award

Andrea Sweigart, Assistant Professor of Biology at the University of Georgia, has received a Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers. Sweigart received her Ph.D. in 2006 under the supervision of Prof. John Willis. PECASE is the government's highest award for scientists and engineers who are in the early stages of their research careers and show the potential for exceptional leadership. The 102 recipients were selected on the basis of two criteria: pursuit of innovative research at the frontiers of science, and a commitment to community service. Andrea's award cited her "significant contributions toward understanding the molecular, genetic and evolutionary mechanisms that underlie the origin of species, and her work engaging high school teachers in evolutionary genetics research." .

Congratulations, Andrea!  Duke Biology is very proud of you.
