Research Technician Position - Bernhardt Lab

The Duke River Center at Duke University is seeking a highly motivated candidate for a hydrologic technician position. For more information on the Bernhardt lab and their research, please visit the lab website at: The StreamPULSE project focuses on monitoring stream metabolism using advanced sensors and sophisticated modeling.

Expectations for this position are as follows:

  • Assisting graduate students and postdocs in projects related to their individual research

  • Weekly stream monitoring site visits

    • Discharge Measurements

    • Water Chemistry Sampling

    • Sensor and In-Field Data Collection

  • Laboratory chemistry analysis

  • Data reduction, cleaning, management, and analysis

Minimum Qualifications

  • B.S. in Biology, Ecology, Geology or related field

  • >1 year experience in stream monitoring and hydrologic data analysis

  • Able to work outside in various field conditions

  • Knowledge of Campbell Scientific, YSI, and other advanced hydrologic sensor technologies

Desired Qualifications

  • M.S. in Biology, Ecology, Geology, or related field

  • 1-5 years experience in stream monitoring and hydrologic data analysis

  • Knowledge of R and experience with data management

  • Experience with construction, installation and repair of sensor platforms
