This course will cover the molecular and cellular components underlying nervous system function. Topics include the regulation of the neuronal cytoskeleton, process outgrowth and axon guidance, transport mechanisms, the generation and propagation of the action potential, components of the presynaptic and postsynaptic terminals, growth factors in development and regeneration, neuronal stem cells, and sensory signal transduction.
