Principles and applications of statistics in biology, with emphasis on genetics, molecular biology, ecology and environmental science. Topics include: the presentation of biological data, summary statistics, probabilities and commonly-applied probability distributions, the central limit theorem, statis- tical hypothesis tests, errors and power, tests using the z- and t-distributions, correlation and regression, analyses of variance and covariance, non-parametric tests, and sampling design. Not open to students who have credit for another 100-level statistics course. One course.
