Graduate Teaching Fellow, Drexel University – Philadelphia, PA

2013 Major: Biology

How has being a Biology graduate from Duke helped shape you personally and/or professionally?

"The Biology department at Duke was very useful for my professional growth. It was where I got my first experience with research, and I was lucky enough during my time at Duke to work in two different labs and get experience in two fairly different disciplines, both of which have contributed to my current work. It also helped me achieve some truly life-changing opportunities doing field work, and it was where I learned that animal behavior research and conservation biology work were what I wanted to do with my life. Currently, I am pursuing a PhD in Biology, and it is all because of my time at Duke."

What advice would you give students in Duke's Biology programs?

"If you are interested in research, reach out to professors and get started early. You'll pick up some invaluable skills and those connections can be really helpful in figuring out where and how to pursue further education."
