1996, Master of Arts in Teaching, Biology
"I actually have a bachelor's biology degree from Williams College and a master's degree in biology teaching from Duke. I spent the last 20 years as a project manager leading clinical research trials in the field of HIV prevention. I used my background in biology and in teaching/training/communication all the time in that role."
"As everyone says, you may follow a straight path from what you think you're going to do when you start college until you retire, but that would be very surprising. For a time I was far from working in the field of biology (carpenter, salesman, caterer...) but I always really liked biological science and in the end found my way back...there are myriad ways that a biology degree can lead to a career in a lot of different areas/fields. I can't give advice without knowing where someone is hoping to go with their experience, but I guess I would say if you study what interests you most, that's where you'll be happiest. If you later decide you want to go someplace different, you'll find a way to get there."
