Internal Medicine Residency, Emory University School of Medicine – Atlanta, GA

2014 Major: Biology and French Studies

How has being a Biology graduate from Duke helped shape you personally and/or professionally?

"I was pretty sure I wanted to apply to medical school when I arrived at Duke, but it was when I took Microbiology in my senior year that I found a love for biological and biomedical research. It helped me get my first job as a research technician in an HIV lab, and ultimately informed my decision to apply to medical school. I'm now in my second year of internal medicine residency and very excited to apply for a career in Infectious Diseases!"

What advice would you give students in Duke's Biology programs?

"Use your junior and senior year to try a lot of different types of biology classes. I took courses in animal evolution, population genetics, cell biology, and biochemistry. The principles I learned in each course has informed the way I think about human health and healthcare!"
