Carolyn King, B.S. 1997

Associate Professor, University of Basel, Switzerland

1997 Major: Biology

How has being a Biology graduate from Duke helped shape you personally and/or professionally?

"I graduated in 1997 and worked as a business analysis for a year and then 3 years as a technician at UCSF. I had no idea what I wanted to do after Duke and serendipitously worked in an immunology lab, seeding my passion for immunology/infectious disease."

What advice would you give students in Duke's Biology programs?

"If you think you might be interested in basic research, expose yourself to real lab life as early as possible. I didn't realize how exciting it could be until I had a hands on research project (which didn't come until after Duke)."
