How has being a Biology graduate from Duke helped shape you personally and/or professionally?

"My undergraduate experience with Duke Biology not only prepared me for the academic rigor of a PhD program, but also inspired the confidence I needed to pursue biological research as a graduate student. The courses within the Biology department allowed me to explore different fields of interest. In addition, working with different faculty and graduate students was an opportunity to learn and apply different research methods, forge relationships with international collaborators, and analyze and present research results in professional settings. I am beyond grateful for my time at Duke and would encourage any student with an interest in the biological sciences to consider a Duke Biology program."

What advice would you give students in Duke's Biology programs?

"My advice would be to engage closely with Duke Biology faculty and collaborate widely with your peers, especially if you are interested in pursuing research. My mentors were invaluable throughout my undergraduate career and, as I've just begun my PhD program, their support and advice is guiding me today."
