The aim of my dissertation is to elucidate both the structure and function of chromatin in the halophilic archaea. Although nucleosomes have been described in other archaeal families, the extent of their involvement in gene expression is still largely unexplored. Through both genomic and biochemical methods we can better understand the origins and nuances of DNA packaging strategies.
