Physiology of single neurons, and how they come together to form a circuit. Ideas about how circuits encode information. Operation of neural circuits, and experimental and theoretical approaches to unravel them. Principles underlying sensory, motor and decision-making circuits. A range of model systems from small (leech, stomatogastric ganglia) to medium (fruitflies and bees) and large (songbirds, mice, primates) will be introduced. Design principles and constraints that have shaped the nervous system during evolution will be discussed. Instructor: Bhandawat
