MOLECULAR ECOLOGY

Explore use of molecular tools to investigate ecological processes within natural populations and communities from terrestrial to marine. Emphasis on fundamental principles and predictions from ecological and evolutionary theory, as well as historical approaches and precedents. In addition to exploring very basic ecological questions, course discusses interpretation of molecular datasets to evaluate applied ecological problems with societal implications (e.g., conservation, antibiotic resistance, genetically modified crops, adaptation to climate change). Open to graduate students, and upper-level undergraduates with backgrounds in ecology and/or molecular biology. Instructor: Wernegreen
