Cellular and Molecular Neurobiology

This course will cover the molecular and cellular components underlying nervous system function. Topics include the regulation of the neuronal cytoskeleton, process outgrowth and axon guidance, transport mechanisms, the generation and propagation of the action potential, components of the presynaptic and postsynaptic terminals, growth factors in development and regeneration, neuronal stem cells, and sensory signal transduction. Lectures by the instructor and expert guests, with regular readings of current and/or historical primary literature. Prerequisites: Biology 20 or 201L or equivalent, and Psychology 106. One course.
