My research interests are centered around biogeochemical processes and fluxes at the land-water interface at various scales. For my dissertation, I am focusing on the ecological and biogeochemical implications of hydrologic connections between streams and their riparian and hyporheic zones, using urban and restored streams as sites with altered hydrology. Examining trajectories of ecosystem recovery in riparian zones following stream restoration is another aspect of my dissertation work. I am interested in ecosystem restoration as a way to test ecological theories, in addition to the potential practical benefits of restoration in the landscape.
