"Aquaterrestrial" Biogeochemistry

Nutrient cycling within and between dry soils and wet sediments

We are broadly interested in understanding:

  1. How do ecosystems retain nutrients and energy?
  2. How is the answer to Q1 changing as a result of human activity?

Our research primarily focuses on controls of carbon, nitrogen and phosphorus cycling in streams and soils.  We are particularly interested in the biogeochemistry of ecosystem interfaces: be it the surface:subsurface of stream channels, the surface water:groundwater of riparian zones, or the root:rhizosphere of upland soils.
